| Profile of Kenyan Universities

Kenya?셲 education system is referred to as the 8.4.4 system. This requires that a student complete eight years of primary education, four of secondary education and another four at the University (on average), for undergraduate studies. To facilitate these undergraduate studies, there are various universities both public and private.
The public universities are funded partly by the government and partly by the students. The students are required to pay a certain amount of fees per semester, which include tuition fees, registration fees and accommodation fees. The students cater for their own meals and stationary requirements thus require substantial amounts of pocket money. There is a financial assistance program for students, which is carried out by the Higher Education Loans Board. They organize for loans for students payable on attainment of employment. The students however have to apply for such loans and only the qualifying candidates are awarded the assistance. The following are the Public Universities in Kenya.

Due to the limited available admission space in Public Universities, the university qualifying students can enroll in the Private Universities. These offer programmes that require the students to finance their studies without any financial assistance. The Higher Educations??Loans Board however discovered the need to offer assistance since there are some needy students in these Private Universities. This financial assistance is however limited to the minimum. The following are some of the Private Universities in Kenya.
